About the Author:
Peter Aagard
I have written this book about sculptor, plasterer, ceramicist and decoration painter EILIF MØLLER'S WORK and LIFE, as a huge tribute to him and in gratitude that I can go and see and enjoy every day and be inspired by his fantastic DECORATIVE unique UNIVERSE of beautiful colored drafts, oil paintings and enjoy the sight of his beautiful glazed ceramic vases that surround me in my home.
The style period we are in at this time is called in Denmark SKØNVIRKE. It was characterized by a Japanese-inspired organic design language of meandering plants, flowers, trees and elements of the sea's flora and fauna, which to that extent also characterizes EILIF MØLLER'S art. EILIF MØLLER's greatest inspirers were the decorative painter the Englishman WILLIAM MORRIS and the ceramicist THORVALD BINDESBØLL.
Simultaneously with the publication of this book, I have also given everyone the opportunity to experience EILIF MØLLER's large, versatile DECORATIVE UNIVERSE.
EILIF MØLLER deserves to be lifted out of the shadows into the light.
My starting point for writing this book was a rather sparse source material inherited in several generations from my stepmother's sister VALBORG MØLLER, who was married to EILIF MØLLER. It was 2 work folders with approx. 350 colored drafts for decoration of walls / ceilings, furniture, lamps, advertisements, caravan oven screens, jewelery, ceramics etc. and 2 ceramic vases and a marriage certificate.
Based on that, I searched for information on e.g. The National Archives in Copenhagen and the National Archives, received information I could then go on with and since then it has been a long and extremely interesting and exciting journey, where I have always been able to expand my knowledge of EILIF MØLLER'S LIFE AND WORK and it has given me new clues to go after in my search for written sources, photos, etc., as documentation for my book.
EILIF MØLLER's great commitment has taken me around all of Denmark, among other places. to Copenhagen, Ålborg, Kolding, Horsens, Helsingør, Middelfart, Roskilde and Randers, where he has had artistic assignments for the cities' most famous architects and exhibited his own ceramics and ceramics from MØLLER OG BØGELYS KUNSTKERAMISKE FABRIK, where he was artistic director.
I have been really pleasantly surprised to see how versatile and talented an artist he has been.
I saw beautifully done stucco work, beautifully decorated altarpieces and pulpits, artfully decorated fireplaces, the most beautiful restaurants and cinemas in Denmark decorated with oriental
wall / ceiling motifs, original ceramics etc.
All my work is so gathered in this book about EILIF MØLLER'S LIFE AND WORK.
